Vicky is the first character in the Victorian Angels miniature series — an original IP created and sculpted by Anna Schmelzer, designed for 3D printing at 80mm scale. The project emerged from a desire to explore a niche that sits between fine art collectibles and tabletop miniatures, filling the space as a professional 3D figure sculptor Germany based: highly detailed, narratively rich figure sculpts designed explicitly for resin printing and hand-painting.
The Victorian Angels concept draws on the visual language of late 19th century mourning culture — elaborate black dress, lace detail, period-accurate silhouette — combined with fantasy wing structures that introduce an otherworldly quality without breaking the historical mood. Vicky represents the series' introductory character: composed, melancholic, and architecturally detailed enough to reward the effort of a skilled painter.
At 80mm, every surface decision is deliberate. The lace pattern across the bodice was sculpted using ZBrush's Surface Noise tool with a custom alpha, then refined by hand to ensure the depth is sufficient to print cleanly at 0.05mm layer height on a standard resin printer. The wing feathers are individually sculpted with quill and barb detail. The face was the final element — small enough to risk losing expression, large enough that any anatomical error is immediately visible.
The piece was rendered with a Runway Gen-3 ambient animation — candlelight flicker across the figure, subtle fabric movement — for portfolio presentation.
This project is an example of the kind of commission Anna accepts in the miniature space: original character design, series development, and production-ready 3D print files.
