The Hippocampus sculpt sits within my long-running Schleich Bayala engagement — continuous character work for one of Europe's most recognised toy brands. Bayala's Meamare underwater kingdom extends the range into sea unicorns, hippocampi and mermaid companions, sold in over 60 countries and demanding the same sculpt quality at production scale as the land-based characters.
Working from 2D character designs provided by Schleich's in-house team in München, I translate flat concept art into three-dimensional sculpts that satisfy injection moulding constraints: visual accuracy to the approved design, correct proportions for the 5–12 age group, structural integrity for tooling, no undercuts that would complicate mould release, and surface detail that reads at 6–10cm production scale. The same master sculpt also serves SLA resin prototyping and small-batch resin casting.
This piece pairs a Hippocampus mare with a Sea Unicorn foal — hybrid horse-fish anatomy with gold-accented mane and translucent fin geometry, a decorative shell harness on the mare, and a spiral horn on the foal identifying the official Schleich Sea Unicorn product family. I balanced delicate fin membrane and ornamental surface work with the structural requirements of a child's toy that must survive drop tests and repeated handling.
The characters belong to Schleich's Magical Underwater Tournament playset (42575, Bayala Meamare) — a product line where composite fantasy creatures must read as believable at shelf scale while remaining fully manufacturable. Equine musculature, aquatic scaling and decorative harness geometry coexist within a single mould-ready asset.
This is the kind of work toy manufacturers, miniseries producers and resin-cast studios hire me for: consistency, brand guideline adherence, and the technical knowledge to deliver sculpts that survive injection moulding, FDM and SLA 3D printing, and resin casting intact.
I sculpt toy characters for international brands — from concept to injection-mould-ready masters.
