Batgirl Collectible Figure — Toyfight Character Sculpt | Anna Schmelzer

Client: Personal / Toyfight

The Batgirl Collectible is a 1/16th scale fan art sculpt that became one of Anna's most recognised pieces, inducted into the CG Society Hall of Fame in 2020. The project was a deliberate exercise in the full collectible design pipeline: from character interpretation and pose design, through multi-scale ZBrush sculpting, to a full cinematic environment render.

The pose was the first major design decision — Batgirl needed to feel dynamic and confident without relying on action clichés. The chosen stance places her weight slightly forward, cape caught mid-movement, expressing purpose rather than performance. The cape geometry was built using ZBrush's cloth simulation and manually refined to achieve the specific flow that reads well from both the primary viewing angle and the 45-degree side views essential for a collectible figure.

The gothic moonlit environment was constructed entirely in ZBrush and Octane — a crumbling stone wall detail, architectural relief elements, and a full moon background composite. The lighting is designed to support the figure rather than compete with it: a cold rim light from the moon separates the cape edge, while a subtle warm fill from below suggests city light reflecting up from the streets.

The costume detail — stitching, panel lines, texture variations between leather, fabric and latex — was hand-sculpted at subdivision level 6. Each material zone received a separate Octane material with its own reflectivity and roughness map.
